This dress is inspired by the goddesses of my great-grandmothers, who made the journey north, leaving the South behind in search of new beginnings in New York City. It represents their strength, resilience, and the courage it took to build a new life with their children and loved ones.The journey they embarked on was both exciting and terrifying. It’s a journey we all know well: the collision of fear and hope, of uncertainty and possibility. Navigating those emotions is never easy, but I believe that, no matter what they faced, they led with beauty—the beauty of a goddess.The dress features embroidered flowers, and to me, the stitching symbolizes the map to that new beginning. The petals, like the people who made this journey, are blooming—growing, flourishing, and finding their place in the world. Just as a trail leads to a new view, this dress represents the view of a fresh start, filled with meaning, purpose, and above all, love.
