HerStory

This collection is a tribute to the African American experience—my ancestors’ story, and the story of countless others. It’s a celebration of Black heritage in America. We will begin in the South, specifically in South Carolina and Georgia, where my ancestors once lived. These places are deeply woven into the fabric of my family’s history and the larger story of Black heritage in America. Over the next two weeks, I’ll be sharing the stories of my ancestors, as well as the stories of remarkable Black women who have influenced my life and the culture.

With each collection, I will take you on a journey from my ancestors to my present day. For without our ancestors, who are we? Each collection I release carries the weight of years of personal reflection and creativity, stories I’ve held close while designing. Now, I want to share the meaning behind each piece. Every design comes from a special place in my heart and soul. Not one piece is created without purpose—each one holds deep significance, especially within my personal collection, which honors Black beauty and ancestral love. For the next two weeks, I’ll be diving into the untold stories that have shaped me, my art, and the very core of who I am. From the women who came before me to those I’ve been fortunate to meet along the way, I’ll honor their courage and spirit through every design.

These pieces are not just accessories; they are living testaments to the strength and beauty of Black women, who have always been the backbone of our culture and our communities. Through each collection, I hope to show how the power of our ancestors continues to move through us today. Every design has a purpose—each one is rooted in the love and wisdom passed down to me. As I share these stories, I hope you’ll feel the same deep connection to our shared history and the timeless beauty of Black resilience.

EXODUS

This dress is inspired by the goddesses of my great-grandmothers, who made the journey north, leaving the South behind in search of new beginnings in New York City. It represents their strength, resilience, and the courage it took to build a new life with their children and loved ones. The journey they embarked on was both exciting and terrifying. It’s a journey we all know well: the collision of fear and hope, of uncertainty and possibility. Navigating those emotions is never easy, but I believe that, no matter what they faced, they led with beauty—the beauty of a goddess. The dress features embroidered flowers, and to me, the stitching symbolizes the map to that new beginning. The petals, like the people who made this journey, are blooming—growing, flourishing, and finding their place in the world. Just as a trail leads to a new view, this dress represents the view of a fresh start, filled with meaning, purpose, and above all, love.
